Post-Run Snacking

Two of the best feelings after a run is 1. Accomplishing that run and 2. Treating yourself to a refreshing snack post-workout. Getting through that tough run does a body good, so be sure to nourish yourself with the right foods and drinks!

Your post-run snack should be a mix of proteins and the right carbohydrates. With lots of healthy options, which kind of snack is the right one to choose?

one of our favorite post-workout snack. don't forget that water ;)

Your snack should replenish energy levels and help rebuild muscles after an intense workout. The key is to pick a snack that is balanced, with the right amount of proteins and carbs.  See below for some protein/carb combos that help feed your body with the good stuff.

1. Greek Yogurt with Fresh Fruit
Greek yogurt is packed with protein and fruit offers natural carbs that replenish energy levels. We like this snack since you can mix up your fruit options and yogurt flavors.

2. Pita, Veggies, and Hummus
One of our favorites after an afternoon run is to pair our fave veggies with a delicious hummus! Hummus has both carbs and protein, while a whole grain pita and veggies will help keep you full and energized after your workout.

3. Fruit Smoothie
Nothing sounds better after a run than a refreshing fruit smoothie (except Gatorade or water!). Add in a banana, almond or coconut milk, and some greens for a treat that is loaded with nutrients to refuel your body. Need a new smoothie recipe? We created one for you!
perfectly refreshing for your post-run snack

Banana Berry Smoothie

Ingredients
makes one, 16oz smoothie

1 frozen banana, partially defrosted
1/4 cup frozen mixed berries (we like blackberries, raspberries, and blueberries)
1/2 cup vanilla almond milk
1/4 cup vanilla Greek yogurt
1 cup fresh kale

Add all ingredients to the blender, except for the fresh kale. Blend until smooth. When the ingredients are blended smooth, add the kale. Pulse until kale is incorporated. Pour and enjoy!

What is your go-to post workout snack?

XOXO,
